The Battle for TE TAITOKERAU

The battle for Te Taitokerau has got more interesting with incumbent Kelvin Davis becoming Labour’s deputy leader.

That means he’s back on the party list at number two, which means he won’t be out of a job if Mana’s Hone Harawira takes the seat.

But will voters be swayed by the two MPs for one message promoted by Mr Harawira’s supporters and vote strategically, or will they give two ticks to Mr Davis and Labour?

Will they forgive Mr Harawira his disastrous dalliance with Kim Dotcom’s Internet Party and make him the next Northland comeback kid?

Those are the sorts of questions posed in the second Te Wero 2017 debate, to be broadcast on Friday August 11 at 10am.

We’ll also hear from the Green Party’s Godfrey Rudolf, as the candidates field questions on housing, transport, jobs, treaty settlements and tribal politics posed by moderator Julian Wilcox and the audience at west Auckland’s Hoani Waititi Marae.

Te Wero 2017, Te Taitokerau is a two hour long radio programme, consisting of a half hour pre-debate profile on the electorate, voting patterns, trends and featuring Maori in the rohe contesting general seats. The debate is an hour long and is followed by political commentators who will critique the candidates’ performance.

Te Wero 2017 gives you the listener and you the voter an insight into candidates and policies to help you make the decision on who to tick on September 23.
